Hello beauty fanatics, today I'm going to review a face oil I'm currently using and is part of my regular routine: the Life Flo Pure Rosehip Seed Oil.

Harvested from the seeds of rose bushes predominately grown in Chile, rosehip seed oil is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, as well as reducing scars and fine lines. The vitamins and antioxidants include Vitamin C, Vitamin A (retinol), and linoleic and linolenic acids—all superstars for skin and hair health.

The Rosehip oil is light amber in color, it is considered a “dry” oil, meaning that it soaks into the skin easily, and does not leave a greasy residue. It is know for being a great agent in the fight against dry, weathered, and dehydrated skin. But that doesn't mean people with other skin types won't benefit from this oil! It is very hydrating and reduce fine lines and is anti-aging.

The bottle is a transparent brown glass bottle because the oil should not be exposed to sunlight. It is best to store in a cool dry and generally dark place. This oil may be used straight from the bottle as a moisturizer or topical treatment, or can be incorporated into a cream or lotion, or can also be used as a massage oil. Because it is so gentle, rosehip seed oil may be used undiluted on the skin.

The smell is of the oil is a bit hard to describe, it is not a fresh floral scent nor fruity smell, I think it smells a bit like tea. I don't love the smell but I don't hate it either, it's very "herbal/tea"ish flavour.

I write this for all my posts, in case you haven't read my other posts: I want to tell you that I always use my hands to apply all of my skincare products instead of using a cotton pad. I just think that I'm wasting a lot of products when I put it on the cotton pad versus putting a few drops in my hands. Another benefit with applying products with my hands is I can massage my face and improve my blood circulation on my face while applying products and also feel my face at the same time to look for dry areas or problems with my skin. Why good blood circulation is good for the skin? Because blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to your cells while it removes waste products, which is vital for good skin.

The way I use this oil is drop 3 to 4 drops onto my hands, and then rub it evenly on my palms and pat it on my face gently, pressing the product into my skin and let it absorb. There will be some left on my hands that I also pat onto my neck and rub the rest on my hands like a hand cream.

It takes a little while for the oil to absorb into the skin, if you use it as a moisturizer. But since I'm using it as a treatment, I put moisturizer on top of it so it absorbs faster a little bit. But after a while it all absorbs into the skin without leaving your face greasy and shiny at all. If anything I'll get a glow on my skin with this.

I have not had any allergic reaction to this, I use this in both the day time and night time routine. What I had noticed after the first month of use is that my face is very moisturized and glowing - immediate affect too! Another reason why this is good for my skin even though I don't have dry skin, is because I use sunscreen in the morning and sunscreens are usually a bit drying so when I put this oil first before sunscreen it off sets the dryness. So if you have problems with sunscreen because it is too drying for you and makes you not want to wear it, applying a face oil prior to wearing sunscreen may be a good option for you.

There are a lot of other face oils if rosehip seed oil is not for you because you are looking for different benefits or you have a different skin type, such as:

  • Grapeseed Oil - for oily skin or ance prone skin - can actually help regulate your natural oil production. it's packed with antioxidants, including skin-brightening vitamin C.

  • Argan Oil - for all skin stypes - contains a high concentration of vitamin E and fatty acids and is good for anti-aging and hydration.

  • Sea Buckthorn Oil - for problematic skin conditions or damaged skin - is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids, carotenes, tocopherols, and phytosterols to relieve damaged skin.

There are so much more types of face oils for different skin concerns and skin types. But let me remind you that because they are natural cold pressed oils, it's better to do some research and make sure it is suitable for your skin before buying any of them.

This brand is not available at local stores here in Toronto, I bought mine on amazon.ca. There are tons of different brands that makes Rosehip seed oil and to me they are all the same if they are 100% natural cold pressed, the prices vary from $10 to $40 plus tax. This Life Flo brand one is in the lower price range and works just as well. You can check around the sites and find one that is at the price point suitable for you and give it a try!
